Help with laptop - only one speaker works

Hi, I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7. I noticed today that the right speaker has no sound coming out of it, I plugged in a set of headphones and only one of them has sound, the other one is dead. I checked the balance and both left and right have the same levels, are there any other things I need to check? This laptop is no longer under warrantee.
I would appreciate any help with this...

It sounds like there is something wrong with the onboard sound, and i'm not sure there is anything you can do about it.

Did you change any sound settings before it went?

You might be able to borrow USB speakers from a friend.

Do you have the same problem? If so, then it is internal. If not, then it is the socket/port that is the problem.
