    Greetings Geeks -

I am having touchpad issues with my Toshiba laptop. I do believe the power cord is the problem. When plugged it, the touchpad acts wonky. After some research, I discovered that not surprisingly a bad power cord can cause this issue. The cord in question is from the bowels of China, not an OEM replacement part. So . . .

The laptop in question is a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6825

I checked the output on the cord. It is listed at 19V and 6.3 amps. I was thinking that the amps might be too much, so I began researching the technical specs of my laptop. On the product./serial sticker on the bottom of the unit says "DC19V 3.95 amps." I assume that is the what the OEM put out. That is about half the amps of my replacement! So, I figured I would check the specs on the battery to see what it puts out. It says "DC 10.8V 40000mAH." How does that convert?

I decided to look into replacement power cords. I checked on Amazon and researched a few. They only list the volts under the specs, not the amps. I bought my current replacement assuming I had the correct one. However, my cursory investigation leads me to believe as I stated there are too many amps going into the laptop.

Can somebody clarify any of that for me? Or point me to a sight where I can find the amp specs for replacement cords? In the meantime, I will see I can locate a better online store that lists what I need.

    Thanks for any help.

You can't have to many amps on a power supply the computer will only draw what it needs,if you have less amps on the replacement power supply than the original it will get hot and could blow, so more is definitely a good thing.

Where voltage is concerned it has to be exact, not more not less exact, not enough voltage and it won't power the laptop, too much and it will blow the laptop/battery.

This is a measure of charge in milliamps over hours, the number you've posted though is wrong its actually 4000mAH,this means the battery can put out 4000 millamps "4amps" for an hour before it dies,it also means the battery will take one hour to charge at 4amps.

What's written on the side of cheap power supplies isn't always what you get though,a quick voltage check with a multimeter will let you know, that would be my first avenue of investigation.

I've not heard of a power pack causing a touchpad problem,is it a problem related to your specific laptop model?

A couple of things happen when the power chord is connected, the battery begins to charge and the laptop switched from battery to full power mode at a guess I would assume the problem is with one of the full power settings so you may want to try going into windows power settings and setting all the power saving features to disable to see if the problem persists on battery alone, also update to the latest touchpad driver from toshiba, that's the best i've got without more info:)

Sorry for highjacking this thread. I am going to need a new battery shortly. The OEM is 10.8 volts. Some on ebay are listed as 11.1 volts for the same battery number. Is it safe to go with the 11.1 volt battery?

It doesn't matter so much with the battery as the charging circuits will charge it to the right voltage anyway,if its a 100 V battery it will still only get charged to a maximum of 12.6V then the charger will shutoff. During usage and charging a 3.7V lion cell will fluctuate between 3.7V and 4.2V,there 3 of them in one battery so 11.1V and 12.6V.

After charging the battery will slowly settle down to about 11V so 0.3V won't make much difference,to cut a long story short most manufactures offer replacement batteries for the same laptop using both 3.6V and 3.7V cells so so do most third party vendors so there mustn't be any problems.
