Help with laptop!?

I was trying to use my brothers laptop to make a cd. I connected my external drive to get them onto the laptop (and my have only had my external in my comp so I'm sure it doesnt have any viruses etc) and then i put what I thoguht was a blank cd and it went all weird and froze up and now it doesn't work.

It comes up with the message: "the application or DLL C:/windows/system32/mswcock.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette" I press "ok" and then it says "The application failed to initialise properly (ox000012d). Click on ok to terminate the application" I click "ok" and then it says "DLL C:/program files/norton 360/setEVthp.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette" I click "ok" and it goes back to the first message and then after clicking ok again it goes back to the last one and so on.

I was jsut hoping someone might know what this means and how I might be able to fix this or will I have to take it to get repaired!

The first file you mentioned - mswcock.dll - is not a valid file name. I think you meant to type mswsock.dll which is the Windows WinSock file. The second file you mentioned is obviously a Norton file, related to the antivirus software installed. Now, I have no idea why these errors would pop up after connecting an external drive, but the new generation of viruses is really good at destroying any antivirus software installed, and the Windows internet connectivity components which includes the WinSock files. I strongly recommend in depth scans of the external drive, your brother's laptop, and your PC that had the external drive hooked up to it. Follow the steps in this guide, and then post in the Malware Removal Forum if your scans aren't clean...
