OK just got my new parts and installed, really excited!

    Have a Gigabyte K8NS-Pro motherboard
    Athlon 64 3200+ socket 754
    512mb PC3200

Now I'm having trouble booting from cd rom and floppy. The floppy just doesn't seem present and I've set it to boot from cd then floppy. It says "boot from cd" and the cd drive starts to spin, then after a few seconds get the dreaded "NTLDR is missing, press ctrl + alt + del to restart"

    HELP!!!!

Did you take the floppy out before trying the CD?

Naturally, I have tried practically everything I can think of, all boot options are set up correctly. I'm wondering if my hard drive has a problem.

Double-check your hard drive cable, disconnect and reconnect.

I think it's a problem with the hard drive, just have a slight feeling that it's the cause. Have tried a different IDE cable and still no luck. I connected it to this computer and it showed up fine though.

When it says boot from CD does it not say hit any key? It sounds like it is going past the cd, and looking for the harddrive, and not finding it. Is it set to boot from 0 HDD as one of the boot options?

OK now got a new error "disc boot failure error, insert system disc and press enter"
I thought it might be my xp cd, so tried my old 2000 disc but still doesn't work. Any more ideas? Thanks for the links but still no luck.

    Is your cd-drive installed well?
    Did you try another harddisk?
If not try formating with a bootable floppy.

No can't try another hard drive.
Tried booting from 6 setup floppies, and got somewhere! Got to the cd installation, created a partition, copied setup files, rebooted and back to the original problem of "non system disc...."

    After setup copied the file,
    you shouldnt boot from cd,
    I guess you know that.
