Symantec is going to be your Norton Antivirus 2004, unless you are running any other Norton/symantec products. They are one and the same.

    Norton Anti Virus Deletion

    Hello
This is a great forum..can anyone help me again..I want to get rid of the POP UP that keeps saying your NORTON anti-virus has expired..how do I do this so it will not keep coming back onto my computer screen..it takes up the whole screen!
Also, My Norton anti-virus is expired so I am going to DELETE it..should i Also delete Norton INTERNET SECURITY(round globe icon) or does this automatically get deleted when deleting Norton anti-virus?
To delete; These are found in my CONTROL Panel under the program Symantec? Both of them..and should I delte Norton updates in the Control panel add/remove programs while I am at it?
    Thanks

Merged threads. One thread for the same ongoing issue is sufficient :)

Yes....you MUST uninstall them, not delete them. You can uninstall them by going to the Control Panel and clicking on Add/Remove Programs, and select the Symantec program. You can also unistall the Norton Updates program too.

Once you have done this reboot your computer and we can talk you through running a cleaner like CCleaner to tidy your computer up after the uninstallation process.

    Hi Lev..
I want to Thank you very much for all your replies.
I am not too good with computers as you can tell, so bear with me.
My main goal is to try to Uninstall Norton Antivirus which is an outdated 2004 version.
*When I am in my Control panel; I have the following:(I do Not see Norton Anti-virus as I said which is what I want to uninstall.
    Control panel listings;
    (1) Norton internet SECURITY (Symantec Corp)
    (2) Norton WMI update
    (3) Live update 2.6 Symantec
    (4) Live reg (Symantec)

I want to make sure I get this correct..do I Uninstall ALL of these above listed programs? Should I do any certain uninstall first??
    Thanks, Lev!

Norton Internet Security is your anti-virus product, among other things, including your firewall. You cannot uninstall one or the other...it's all or nothing. If you do uninstall this you will need to have alternative anti-virus and firewall installed on your machine to keep you protected. Altermatives can be found here http://www.majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=20

If you uninstall one, uninstall all 4 programs. The order doesn't matter.

Re: AVG VIRUS DOWNLOAD won't work PLEASE help

You might have a virus on the machine already. I would use a online scanner to check it out:
    housecall.trendmicro.com
See if that helps, THEN redownload and install AVG.
Frequently, viruses will prevent an anti-virus from installing.

    Hi Lev
my first problem was with Uninstalling Norton Antivirus which was outdated...
My second problem is I cannot get AVG free virus to download off this Geek site.
can you be of any help?
I am sorry to sound redundant, but I have been on line for hrs trying to fix the second problem. I unloaded the outdated Norton Anti-virus with no problem.

    Hi Steve
thanks for your reply and help.
I DID follow Lev's advice..I went into my Control panel and uninstalled my old 2004 Norton anti-virus.Also used tool removal and Ccleaner and then another uninstall on here..all went okay. I also rebooted.
After I completed the Norton anti-virus un-install, I tried to Download the AVG virus program..still no go.It says some installation files are corrupt.
I am now going to run a virus scan..any other suggestions?
Do i need to CLOSE my WINDOWS firewall to install the new AVG antivirus? Maybe that is the problem?? Mine is open.
    THanks

No you do not need to close the Windows firewall to install AVG.

If the AV scan does not show anything, uninstall AVG, reboot, then run CCLeaner, which you can download from here http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_No_Toolbar_d4191.html You will need to run the cleaner, and then run the registry cleaner. Both buttons are on the left hand side toolbar. Be sure to make a registry backup when prompted before running the registry cleaner. Then reboot.

THEN re-download AVG Anti-Virus from here and install http://www.majorgeeks.com/AVG_AntiVirus_Free_Edition_d886.html

If the AV scan does show something, let us know EXACTLY what that was.

As Steve said, after you have followed a post of instructions, it is very helpful to those trying to assist you if you would confirm each time exactly what you did, even if it is just to repeat what they asked you to do. Also state any new things you are seeing/experiencing. This is the only way we can understand what your computer is doing and what work has been done to it. Just because we asked you to do, doesn't mean it actually got done unless you tell us so :)

    OKay Lev
I am going to call it a nite here. I have been trying TOOOO long to fix this computer :(
I now have about 8 downloads of FREE AGV virus (icons)on my DESKTOP..now, another problem. I cannot DELETE these icons..it says Cannot delete AGV75; is being used by another person or program??? I am the only one logged on here. I don't get it. THe icons are white boxes with blue margins on top with 3 dots (I am trying to explain what these icons look like..the properties says its APPLICATIon (whatever that means). I have 2 browsers on here (MOZILLA FIREFOX and INternet explorer). Int.Explorer will not work, so I always use Mozilla as a browser.
So, why can't I delte these ICONS? And as I said, this is a used Computer with another owner on it originally.
Also, I did a virus scan (ADware 2007), but did not write anything down as I forgot and did not receive your post till After I did the scan..it did detect some virus or something..dumb, dumb..but bear with me, I am NOt computer prevy..
Am trying my hardest to give all the info I can
