    Hi.

I've seen so many posts claiming to recover lost data etc..Can you help me?
My Toshiba laptop crashed a few weeks ago taking with it months of digital photos and a book i was writing..

I had to re boot using the Toshiba cd and was told i have now lost all mentioned above. Is this true? is there still hope in recovering any of it?

Please help anyone, i'm rubbish at all the tech stuff....

    Hi.
Thankyou for replying...false hope is better than sitting here with no hope? From the page you have directed me to, which one do i use? (sorry to be a complete idiot).

If you click on any of the major geek sites it will start to download.

    Hi again BB.

I've got a feeling this is Pareto Logic data recovery. I did try this, it gave me a few files that didn't look too familiar but i decided to recover them anyway and was asked for a liscencing key and then asked to pay...needless to say i didn't continue.
    Thanks again

The application i gave you is free.
When you run it you get a list with colored dots on the left hand side if the dot is red the file is un-recoverable if it is orange it is not fully recoverable but if it is green the file is fully recoverable.

    Hi BB.

I downloaded and tried the Recuva. A good tool but unfortunately it only recovered recently deleted files and not the data i lost from my hard drive when my PC crashed.
Thankyou again for atleast coming forward to assist!

The only other thing i can suggest is that you take your laptop to a repair dealer who hopefully has a copy of FBI ( it's not freely available)and see if they can recover some of your data

Was this a recovery CD? Was your computer then returned to the state it was in when you bought it?
If so, I'm afraid the recovery overwrote your hard drive so your files are gone.

For the future, if a hd crashes again, do not try to recover it. Remove the hd, attach it to another computer through the USB port (there are adapters that will attach to laptop and desktop hard drives and have a USB connector on the other end) then use the working computer to look at the damaged hd and see if you can get out any of the files. Even if windows doesn't boot on the damaged drive, it might be possible to get at other files and move them somewhere else before a recovery is attempted.

    Hi.

Yes i would say that my pc is now in a state as newly bought. Strange thing is though, i found a website called Diskinternals and used their 'preview' to see if it would recover anything..well it did!
Obviously they're not gonna give me all my files back for free and are asking a huge amount of money but i'm pleased to know they are still there somewhere!!?

    So, what do you think?
All the free recovery data websites just seem to find all the crap i intentionaly deleted not the data deep within!
