Help with Routing Tables

Hey everyone I am new to this forum and am hoping that you
guys can steer me in the right direction.

The company I work for as Tech Support recently lost their
network admin and I have been trying my hardest to fill the gap.
I however have a rather limited knowledge when it comes to
the more "complicated" tasks.

My company last week changed our Dialup service from a
Channelized T-1 to a bank of modems connected to a device
called a Portmaster. So I found myself having to program this
device, I however am running into a problem where the only
available addresses I can assign to the dialin clients are on a
different subnet than the portmaster itself.

Here is what Jake Messenger (highest authority on the damned
things) has to say about what it wrong with it and how to go
about fixing it:

Assigned Address: 63.167.160.160 (Pool Size 16)
Yet your portmaster does not even live on that subnet.
network: 63.167.160.144/28 gw: 63.167.160.156

You either need to assign addresses that are in the SAME subnet as the ethernet port.
OR you have to set up a route in the portmaster table to say that the range of 63.167.160.160 and higher lives on this portmaster.
Then your CORE router needs to know about that too, either via a static route also, OR enabling ospf or rip and letting them talk to each other.

OR you can enable NAT and assign addresses of something like 192.168.2.1 and then setup defaultnapt on the ethernet port so ALL outgoing traffic gets reassigned to the real ip of the portmaster. This will slow the portmaster down some and you really need more than 4 megs to do NAT.

Now unfortunately I dont know nearly enough about any of this
jazz to go about setting up routes or... well I do know a bit
about nating but I dont really know how well that will work in our
situation.

It is not realistic the company expect you to configure this unit. Have them pay Jake to come in and do it.

We are a very small company and Jake to best of my knowledge will not program the units, he has done a good job of troubleshooting the issues leading up to this realization but I need to figure this out.

BTW you would need to know your ip plan and it would have to have available ips so you could put the portmaster IN your subnet and have it assign ips to dial up users that ARE in your lan subnet.

I know what IPs are available and what are not and have resolved the issue with a "quick fix" by using the only 3 IPs in the subnet that ARE available. Problem is there are 10 lines and only 3 will give GOOD addresses....

I just need to get the routing table up, If anyone needs more info relating to the network please let me know
