I get this error every time I start my computer:

SetConfig Application has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I just had my computer restored after it crashed this weekend. I am thinking it is coming from my HP Laserjet 1300 printer. I did not have the error until after I installed that printer.

Before my computer crashed, I had the error message before when I originally bought the computer and printer. HP sent me a updated version of the installation software that did not help. I left the error message alone becuase I could not figure out how to fix it. Over time I had three error messages every morning when I started my computer that I personally believe lead to the computer crashing this past weekend. I took my computer in and had my data recovered and the original software restored on it. I carefully installed all my my internet and printers back on the computer and until I installed the HP 1300 I did not have any errors.

The HP 1300 has a toolbox and that is what HP thought was my problem but this toolbox had never worked before with this computer. After this restore, the toolbox now works but I still have the error message. I have talked back and forth with HP and they have told me to make sure that all the programs that the HP toolbox needs to run with are allowed through my firewall. I still get the error message when I restart my computer.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be. I would really like to fix it this time before anything major happens again. I will be glad to provide any more information needed.

I also have the error message. I also think it is linked to my HP software, although it doesn't yet seem to be crashing my machine.

    I am running XP Pro

    I have a HP PSC 2500 printer

Anyone who can help with this - many thanks in advance

Check your event log and/or use Dr Watson to pinpoint the culprit.

Does it do it in Safe Mode?

What programs are loaded at startup? (start, run and type in msconfig and then startup tab) A screenshot would be good.
