I've checked througout this entire forum for help on this topic so I wouldn't annoy you guys; but everything that has been suggested hasn't helped.

Ok I have two computers, everything was working fine until one night both computers' internet went dead. I waited until the next morning to check if the internet was working again. Only the host computer was active, the client computer read limited or no connectivity.

So I did what anyone would do to correct the problem. I restarted router, modem, switched Ethernet cables around in every possible way, etc. So I started a search on google and eventually wound up here. I found a couple post s related to my problem and set to work. I found that the client computer's IP address was wrong and changed it to starting with 192.

After this method, the client computer would still not connect to the internet although connection changed from limited to connected completely. So I started on my search again. I found another post that told me to go on the host computer -- internet settings-- advanced and check the box to allow other computers to share internet.

I was almost positive that this was the problem I had overlooked. But as I checked the box, I lost internet on the host computer. The client computer remained the same; connection showed but no access to internet.

I really need some help with this problem. I've tried everything and I still don't know what's wrong. Ask me questions if you are still unsure of the specs, etc.
    Thank you for your time.

First, I understand that you're using a router. Unless you have some sort of configuration I'm not aware of there is no reason to have a "host" computer (if it's even possible). Internet Connection Sharring (ICS) is explicitly for people that do not have routers. The router splits that signal from your modem (and "routs" it) in the correct direction.

You do not want to set your computers IP statically to anything at all, even if it begins with 192. In order for that to be of any use you'll also need to know the subnet mask (255.255.255.x) and the default gateway (probably 192.168.1.1). Your machine may have thought it was connected because it had an IP, but really it wasn't.

You want to set both computers to "obtain an IP address automatically" (Right click "Local Area Connection > Properties > Double Click "Internet Protocal"). This causes them to use a protocal called "DHCP." All you really need to know about that is that it means your router gives out the IP address and your computer uses it. To make sure this works, log on to your routers setup page (usually by using a browser and going to the address 192.168.1.1, but every router is different, if you tell me which one, I can give more detailed intructions) and make sure your router is setup to be a DHCP server.

Once you've done this, if you still have "limited or no connectivity" you can try a couple of things. First, if you havent, restart that computer. Then right click on local area connection and select repair. Then reinstall your network card (Right Click 'My Comp' > select properties > choose hardware tab > click device manager > right click 'uninstall' network card > right click network adapters 'scan for hardware changes'). Then try a winsock reset (to open a command prompt go to Start > Run > type 'cmd' and then enter).

Also: firewall? Wireless or wired? Previous good configuration?
