Help with sony vaio pcg-k35

    old hard drive went bad so i got one from e bay . installed it and i get BOOTMGR MISSING i tried to load windows xp so i can format the drive but cd wonr load up to set up . i went into bios menu and didnt see a dvd rom drive but did see OPTICAL DRIVE am thinking that this is the dvd drive. still nothing ...is this hard drive bad or is there a way i can load something on the drive to fix it ? what can i do please help ...thank you ...bty i do see the hard drive in the bios
