    Hi Guys,
Please restore my sanity...I'm trying to use system restore. I want to restore to an earlier time when my browser wasn't being hijacked and sending me to garbage sites. Anyway, when I click on the arrow for previous month..nothing happens... I want to go back to at least early nov or oct... how to do this? thanks... Gina

    Is system restore turned on?

Right click on "My Computer" select properties, then select the "system restore" tab. Make sure the box next to "Turn of System Restore on all drives" is unchecked.

If it is unchecked, then you may NOT have any restore points available. Or have you previously done a REPAIR installation on your machine? If so, this WIPES out ALL previous restore points.

If this is the case, and you have malware (spyware/viruses/hijackers), then you need to head on over to the spyware forums.

    Hi EFool,
Yes, it is turned on... yes, I know I have hijackers and that's why I am trying to restore to an earlier time. I downloaded "Hijack this" but have NO clue on how to use it, In the note pad log I don't know what to check that might be "hijack-ware" to delete it...damn, wish I was a computer genius like you guys...

I forgot to greet you! :)

Welcome to MajorGeeks. Bare with use as we try to help you on your problem!

I did have one question, did you do a REPAIR installation of your machine?

Otherwise, I'd HIGHLY recommend you read and follow: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

    Then Read: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=38752

    Then post here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=35

Once any malware has been fixed, then if you still have system restore issues, I'd come back here.

    One side note #94:

Doing a system restore rarely fixes any malware issues. Since malware can infest system restore points.

OMG.. I read all that stuff you sent me and I think I am too much of a neophyte to try and run HJT, seems so complicated... but thanks anyway, I guess I'll just have to live with these hijackers till someone who knows how to do HJT can fix this for me. I managed to run it and got the note pad listing but don't know what to do with it now. Oh well, thanks. Merry Christmas!

Gina, I am pretty much in your same predicament(hope I spelled that correctly) except that I am having that problem with hijackers on my alternate computer. The advise I was given was to erase the hard drive and start over from scratch by booting from the Original operating disk my computer came with.

Gina, none of it is hard, and there are precise instructions.

It's up to you, but if you want to persevere and you are stuck, just post back.
