Someone just gave my son a gateway laptop model 4026gz. I have been able to connect to the internet via my home network. I notice that in the system tray the network connection icon (the one that looks like a little computer with 3 colons after it) blinks, but not consistently from green to black inside the part that looks like a monitor screen.

What does this mean and what can I try to do to fix it?

    Thanks,
    David

Sorry, I meant to say the icon switches between Blue, then black inside the little monitor part of the icon.

Pretty sure that's just signifying network activity. If you right click the icon you should see an option that says something about turning off the activity animation.

When I right click there is no option for turning off animation. As far as connectivity I haven't used it enough to see if it is affected. I don't know if I would be able to notice since it only remains off for a few seconds then comes back on.
