Help with UltraVnc

Greetings Everyone,

I am a newbie using UltraVnc. I would appreciate some help. I would like to remotely control my 2 computers. I live in the Philippines. The internet provider here is SmartBro. I've tried using portforward.com and I feel I'm not going anywhere here. I don't use a wireless router like Linksys or Netgear to connect to the internet so I'm a little confused. What they do here is the technicians set up a wirless antenna or canopy and point it to a wirless station. From what I can tell, and I could be wrong, I might have a direct connection to the internet and no router. What I'd like to know is do I have to set up a static IP even though I don't have a wireless router like Linksys or Netgear? How do I set up Vista firewall to accept connections from vncviewer? Please let me know. Thank you in advance.

 

You will need to run the VNC server on your machine first. When you first run the server you will need to allow it through the firewall, so it can accept connections from the Internet.

I suggest that you set up Dynamic DNS with a provider (such as dyndns.org). This will allow you to have a name which will always allow you to reach your PC, regardless of what IP it happens to be on. When you sign up you can download a program for windows that will automatically update the service periodically.

If you go to start -> run, type cmd and press okay, you should get a command prompt. Type ipconfig
There should be a line that says IP Address. If it starts with 192 or 10, you will be using a NAT network which will require port forwarding. You might want to ask your ISP about this if they installed the equipment.

You can go to http://ip.netcore2k.net/, you can find out what your public IP is.

Once you've got VNC Server running on your PC, and DynDns set up, you can try connecting remotely.
