help with vertain sites

I moved this from networking...

when i click on certain links alot of them give me a "page cannot be displayed" message, but they work just next door or on many other computers! is it my browser is it my security settings I tried disabling firewalls and stuff, but nothing.

 

alright I tried disabling my internet security still can't get on to some certain sites anyone?

 

There's not enough information to even begin helping. What OS? What browser? Which sites? What is "internet security"? Something in Windows, or something like Norton Internet Security? What have you done to correct the problem? What do you think the problem is?

 

ok windows xp media center media center edition, internet explorer 5, Norton internet security, I've tried flushing many different methods of disabling security and what not. I don't know what the problem is, but I'm reading from other places that people have similar problems as me.

now I donwloaded firefox to see if that would help now I get a message that says something like "connection was refused when attempting to contact"
then the name of any given site, but just next door or on other computers it works just fine

 

big update here when I click on this specific link http://127.0.0.1/ I get the error message.

Check your hosts file:

C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc

Open the file called hosts in notepad. At the beginning of it you will have many lines explaining what the hosts file is. After which you will see "127.0.0.1 localhost". If you see any other lines below that, you'll need to remove them.
