Help with virus-malaware needed

I got a call from my friend today and he got a email from me from my hotmail ,even though i did not sent it and when he clicked on the link it messed his computer up he gets all popups and cant get on to his desktop it says your c drive has been ereased ect...how would i go about trying to fix this,as he has bussiness info on his computer that he wants saved...also how do i tell what the virus is?

 

im running malaware bytes at the moment,when i turn on the pc i get to the desktop but its just black and when i click the start button for programs ect..its blank,i get all kinds of popups 1 saying harddrive critcal error start a harddrive scan.

 

i managed to get rid of the popups my desktop is now blue instead of black...when i go to my start menu i have nothing in there i cant get to my computer documents or options??

 

yes worked great thank,looks like all may be ok,but i cant find system restore.
