I have a question about web hosting. I am trying to use several different web hosting services to host an application named vtiger (vtiger.com). I am a little confused how to unzip the file once I have uploaded it to the web hosting server and then how to get the application to run as a service once I am there. I have been told it can be done, but am a little confused as to how to accomplish it.

    Thanks,

    Keyser

What system is your web server running? Alot of the virtural servers (if you are using a service) use FreeBSD.

You can't run a process on a standard web hosting account. You'll need a VPS.

Also... how are you uploading the files? You cannot run commands (such as unzipping) via FTP. You'll need to login with an SSH client to the VPS, then issue the "unzip" command

If you can't unzip it on the server, you may be able to unzip locally, and upload the files directly. But it gets complicated sometimes, especially if there are many subfolders. I do this, but haven't found a tool that handles directory uploads very well at all. I'm just doing it manually until I have time to make a custom ftp client.
