help with what these messgaes mean

when i start the pc i am trying to sortout i get these 2 messages that are slowing down the start up

first is

ultra dma mode 2 s.m.a.r.t capable but disabled

it hangs on this message for 2 to 3 minutes then continues to boot

then i get

sec master drive -atapi incompatible press f1 to resume

any ideas what these mean and how to stop them

Self Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology (or S.M.A.R.T.) is a
technology that enables a PC to in some cases predict the future failure of storage devices (like hard disk drives).

This SMART technology is present in your drive, but by default is set to disabled on your drive. For making use of the S.M.A.R.T. feature you would require a software (or BIOS) that enables and monitors the S.M.A.R.T status
of your hard drive, and an operating system that supports the S.M.A.R.T feature i.e. Windows 95 or higher. Some BIOS contain this software, otherwise

Thus the message

"S.M.A.R.T. Capable but Disabled"

means just that - the drive supports the feature, but it isn't enabled / supported by the BIOS or other software.
You need to go into the bios of the computer to alter it
As the computer starts it will say something like "press del to enter set up"( or f12 f10 )
You look in there for the option to alter it ,then exit the bios and save the change .

"Sec master drive -atapi incompatible press f1 to resume"
I believe this is when your cd rom drive is on the same chain as the master HD. Since thier both masters and bootable one needs to be connected to the secodary eide slot on the MB...if I remember correctly...or it was that a switch in the bios need to be changed, like make the HD bootable and the other secondary.

I got these messeges all the time on my p2 233 mmx.
