My windows updater told me I needed to download and install a high priority update GDI. I wanted to research what GDI was and if the update itself was ok to install. I have heard that some windows updates themselves can mess up your computer.

My husband without my knowledge started the automatic update. I cancled it I don't know how far it gotten, and hit the no button. I think it downloaded it, but I stopped near the end of the instillation. I'm not sure though. I know I was probablly over reacting. I did a little research afterwards and found out it dealt with jpeg's and distributing them from unsecure sorces.

I run windows XP and recently installed Office 2003. I do use the XP feature that allows me to download photos from my camera into my computer. I use paint shop pro6 to do what I need to with them. I will be uploading those photos for ebay use later on.

A Break dow of my questions:

    1) Does the update also apply to jpeg's that I view online?

    2) Do I need the update?

    3) How do I know if it actually installed if I need it?

    4) How can I reinstall it if I'm unsure, and do need it? The windows update manager doesn't list it any longer.

    5) Should I trust all high piority windows updates as they come out, or should I investigate further before downloading them?

This tool will tell ya if you need it. Either way, it won't hurt your machine. MS is generally good about releasing problem free updates on the Windows Update site.

Some people will argue Sp2 is a problem, and it is--if your system is already messed up.

The only things from windows updates i would be carefull about installing are driver updates, I personaly havn't had any issues, but know people that have.

I downloaded the tool, and it told me that it needed the update. The problem is that the update from windows automatic update itself was interupted. I think it downloaded, but I wanted to run the installitation again. I can't find a way to re-update it or run it again.

Windows update said it was successfully installed, but does it register that if it was just successfully downloaded, or if it was successfully installed?
