Help with Word!

Okay, well first off hey to everyone. Good to meet you all..and now a question for those who know what they're talking about.

Whenever I open Microsoft word another document opens up where it should be an empty page. It says "Document 1" at the top of the page but the text on the page is from an older document. This has been happening for a couple days. It's extremely irritating.

Any ideas?

Assuming you're using 2000/XP:

Close all instances of office programs
Go here:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
Rename Normal.dot to Normal.bak
Open Word. This should recreate a standard normal.dot

and how would one get to "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates"?

Two ways, one you will have to unhide hidden files by going to Tools > Folder Optiosn > View and ticking show hidden files and folders then navigating to the mentioned location.

or copy the location ( but remember where it says USERNAME that needs changing to your user name ) then paste it into the address bar of the C: drive then click GO.

eg. C:\Documents and Settings\fredfinklestein\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates where fredfinklestein is the USERNAME.

Or you could open a new blank document, then save it as normal.dot

Somehow, your template got corrupted.

Open Word. Click on Edit. Click on Select All. Click on Edit. Click on Delete. Click on File. Click on Save. Close Word. Restart Word. Should open with a blank Document 1
