Help with Zone Alarm results

I've had Zone Alarm installed for about a week now. My computer isn't on all day long so my uptime has been somewhat limited, albeit I'm not exactly sure how many hours I've been active. Still ZA has blocked about 750+ intrusions, with over 100 of those rated high.

Does this seem like a high amount of scans at my machine or is this normal? I'm not too worried, as these are blocked scans, but is there anything I can do to make my computer more invisible?

I'll be looking at a thread on these forums to limit the processes I have running in the background, so I was curious if that had anything to do with my situation.

No un-common for ZA to show that many blocked intrusions, does tend to be over zealous, but they are blocked which is the main thing, scans can come from many sources from,

Your ISP seeing if your still using the net
Websites seeing if you are still on the site
Port Scanners loking for open ports

they all send data packets to your PC and ZA is blocking them.

To make your PC more invisible.. well I could say the smart arse answer and un-hook from the interenet if your that worried, BUT I will resist ;) other option is to get yourself a router with inbuilt hardware firewall, but I would still use a firewall like Zone Alarm to monitor out going traffic in conjunction with the router.

JUST make sure you read the HOW TO GUIDES in the Spyware, namely this one http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44525

Rgr that Halo and thank you for the reply. I previously followed all the steps in the link you posted. I also have Ccleaner, Ad-Aware, MS Antispyware, and AntiVir installed, so I suppose as long as all that crap is blocked and I keep things updated, I'm safe.

Yes, safe as you can possibly be and as we all know you cannot be 100% safe but near as dammit, one thing I would suggest is within ZA and its Program Control > Programs list, just take a little time to get to know whats in there and dont just click yes to allow access when a program pops up in the ZA alert popup, find out what it is and does it really need access to the net?

MS AntiSpyware is very good and one useful tool is the Advanced > System Explorers > Startups list as its very good at letting you know whats starting up at boot on your PC and who's app is it, if it has no name( unknown ) do search of the .exe file to find out what it is.

YES the secret is to keep uptodate with all ANTI programs and windows updates, I would also be tempted to install SpywareBlaster, it doesnt run in the background and needs manually updating once a week BUT it does help in stopping a majority of spyware/malware etc from being installed in the first place.
