Hi, im new to the forum and would like to firstly say you all seem very imformative and knowledgeable people :)

After moving house i have a problem with my pc booting up.

Im pretty much a novice compared to some of you but i do have basic knowledge of pc's (i built the one im having problems with although it has been running fine until i moved house).

when trying to boot the pc i got nothing but a whining noise, when looking inside the pc, the display on the abit ag8 motherboard was showing 8.

i read on the internet about cold boot problems and held in the reset button which did make a difference.

switching on the pc i now get

    2
    0.0.
    8.3.
    8.7.
    9.6.
    9.e.
    9.f.

followed by one long beep then 3 short beeps.

    heres what i have done.
cleared the cmos using the battery (tried jumpers also).
tried booting up using basic hardware (ram and graphics card)
    reseated cpu and fan
tried to remove as much dust as possible.

can anyone shed any light on this as im at my wits end!

ps i did find this link, can anyone shed anymore light on how to do this?

    thanks in advance!

On the Ami win bios it stopped at 9f - Issue keyboard ID command
I would look at the ram , and graphics card- remove/reseat/replace if available.

On the Ami color ----it stopped at set numlock (keyboard)

If you look down the left side of the BIOS CENTRAL LINK, you will see all other Bios names to search, if those I found are not your Bios.
Come back, if you need more help, loads of good assistance from majorgeeks.

And I forgot to say, welcome to Majorgeeks

Can you actually get into the Bios, or, are you just beeped out ?
I have not known a hard drive to stop getting Bios, and it seems, here that it has just checked and cleared that.
I believe that you will have to go back to the one stick of ram, NO GRAPHICS CARD - and see if it passes post , THEN ADD GRAPHICS CARD,
Sounding rather like the Display adapter problem .

baklogic, thanks for your help firstly :)

i cant get into the bios, i get nothing on the screen.

I have taken the graphics out, and tried with one stick of ram.

    it does change,
    8.3.
    8.9.
    9.a.
    9.6.
    9.f.

then i get 1 long beep followed by 4 short (with ram and gcard its only 3).

and yes that is the correct version of my bios.

If you have done the ram check, the psu test, and disconnected all parts,--- as you reintroduced the graphics card, the bios code changed, -YOU SAID 'NO CHANGE' - SAME 1-3 BEEPS ? ( Did you listen to see if beeps seperated and if there were 1-3-1, or, 1-4-1 ?after disconnecting hard drive etc:?)
Check no screws down behind motherboard - Try with motherboard lifted off standoffs (USUAL PRECAUTIONS WITH ELECTRICS )
