Please can someone come up with a soution to this predicament I have found myself in.

Everytime I sart up my desktop after a few seconds of the computer loading up I keep getting the same error message, which once has appeared all the sound on my computer stops working. The only quick solution I have found so far is to open any program (i.e. Itunes) up before the error message appears for sound to work afterwards. As you can imagine I am getting rather fed up of it now and need a long term solution.

    The errror message says

Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close.....

(the once more info is clicked)

    Error Signature:
    szAppName: svchost.exe
    szAppVer: 5.1.2600.2180
    szModName: wuaueng.dll
    szModVer: 7.0.6000.381
    offset: 00134451

    Any Help would be appreciated.

It would appear that you have a corrupt system file.
My advice would be to run the system file checker.
This will compare all the files in your system directory with the original versions, replacing any that are damaged.
    Click Start>Run>sfc /scannow
This may ask you to put your OS disk (XP, Vista etc.) into your CD drive.
Some computer manufacturers put copies of these files in a protected directory, some do not.
If yours did then it won't need the OS disk.
Because system updates (service packs etc.) replace some of these files, you should go to microsoft.com after running the system file checker allowing it to update your files.

Windows uses several svchost files for several different things, and it can be tricky to determine which svchost file is doing what, but since you're having sound issues, I think it's safe to say that this particular svchost file is associated with your sound drivers. The second file listed wuaueng.dll is related to the Windows Updates; all files that start with wuau are for Windows Update Automatic Updates. Try removing your sound drivers if they're listed in Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel. Be sure you have the drivers to reinstall before removing the current one. You can usually download drivers from your PC or motherboard maker's web site. After removing the drivers, restart the PC and reinstall. As for the wuau file.... it may repair itself during the sound driver install, but that's a long shot. Maybe try running Dial-A-Fix and using the the 'Repair Windows Update' option and also check all the boxes in the 'Registration Center' and click Go. If you get any errors, post them here and we'll try to help. Dial-A-Fix is a free download, available here at Major Geeks: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4899.html

    Good luck!
