    Hey Guys,
I need help with this. Ok I was gonna take a HD outta my old computer and put it in my new one..sounds simple enough. It didn't boot, so I switched the IDE cables(Yes, the 2nd HD is jumper ed to slave). Still no boot. So I took the 2nd HD out and went to take the cable out but the master end plugged into my HD tore off and got lodged in the slot on the HD. Got it out and had like 3-4 bent pins(goit them straightened out) and plugged it back in with the original IDE cable that I know worked with just 1 HD. I restarted but it gave me this error:
    PXE-E53: No boot filename received
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM
Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device

I have absolutely no clue what this means and my HD will not register in my BIOS(This is my home computer connected to my router).
    Please help
    thanks

The error indicates that the PC's BIOS isn't finding a hard drive to boot from and is trying to boot over a network. Judging by your description of events, I'd say that either a pin (or pins) is bent up around the connector or that a pin has broken - even though it might still look like it's attached, it could be broken closer to the drive.

    Ok thank you,
I tried the main HD from my old computer that has the same copy of windows XP and a copy of Ubuntu installed along side it and neither worked. Should I just replace the drive? And if so is there a way to get my data off this one?(nothing extremely important is on this drive)

Can you give me full details of the hardware involved, please? Hard drive make/model/capacity, PC make/serial# or motherboard make/model and describe the IDE cables - 80 or 40 wire?

    Hey Guys,
Quick update, I sent it to my one friend who has a better understanding of computers( I'm slowly but surely going to get to that level of knowledge and someday surpass him) and he did some poking around and it was a broken pin like satrow had mentioned. He was able to fix it and the HD works, but its getting the NTLDR is missing error. He said that I probably just need to reinstall windows on it, is that all I would have to do to get it up and running again? ( I haven't went to pick it up from him yet)
    Thanks,

Scratch that last post I'm a complete Idiot LOL ..Re-installing windows would fix that NTLDR message
