Help?

I have a machine here with 151 viruses that I cleaned with housecall from trendmicro, 500+ ad ware pieces of crap, and I am now trying to update the machine and windowsupdate.microsoft.com will not come up. What am I missing? I delted the temp files, there is nothing in hosts. The security warning never comes up. I am on the internet although cause I am typing this. Help?

What OS? What kind of Net Access? Does it work in Safe Mode w/ Networking (Provided this is cable)?

I'm sure some folks will want to know your PC details: especially your OS.
Also -you cleaned 151 viruses with Trendmicro -have you run it since you 'cleaned' it?
You also mentioned deleting a bunch of spyware: was it 'Adaware' specifically that killed all the junk (and *again* have you run it since 'cleaning' the first time?)
Also: re windows update: are you just getting a 'this page cannot be displayed'?
-Have you run any registry cleaners lately , and are you having trouble accessing any other sites?
Any other details you can think of might be helpful(l).

Yes, I have reran them both and the viruses are gone, and adware came up with 2.

What is a good reg cleaner?

 

Othersites come up good, sometimes it wants me to sign into MSN, but IE works when I cancel that.

 

Safemode now.... adware running... nothing yet, trend running, nothing yet.

WIndowsupdate comes up to just a white screen that shows done.

if I manually put it v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp (I have done this a few times) then it comes up and says checking for latest software and then says done and does nothing else. What next?

So I thought maybe its IE right, downloaded Mozilla and tried and I get the same shit. The Automatic update service is started... humm... stopped it and still can't get on the site. If I use the IP instead of the FQDN it doesn't work... I am running out of ideas.

I ran the reg cleaner. Took mad crap out, no help.

Windows Update is not on port 80, or even 8080, if I recall correctly.

I have a Netscreen 5GT but my machine can get through it perfectlly, and every other machine I have is getting through. McFee Security Center?

 

The firewall is stateful in less words.

 

I mean has anyone ever seen McAfee Security Center crash like this? It won't uninstall either... what a piece o crap.

Fdisk, format, reinstall, do da, do da....

Yeah Mcaffee security center seriously sucks.

Shame you can't uninstall it.

You could try ripping the winsocks and replacing them, and maybe ignore the fact you can't uninstall the POS.
