I ran all the spyware programs I have, ad-aware, spysubtract, spybot, spywareblaster, cwshredder, and norton antivirus. i followed the guidelines on getting rid of spyware, trojans, and viruses on this website but my browser keeps going back to www.othersearch.com and that annoying search bar wont go away. i dont know what to do!

    Hi HrtBreaker779,

-Did you do the online scans?
-Safe Mode W/ System Restore OFF?

Try running this tool: OmegaKillerSM v1.2
Place it it its own safe folder - C:\Program Files\OKSM and run it Twice. Let us know if it finds anything.
Also, send us a HijackThis Log.

Note that your HijackThis should be up-to-date (v1.98.2) and MUST be extracted to its own safe folder - C:\Program Files\HijackThis

If you need a Fresh Download of HJT, get it HERE: HijackThis 1.98.2

Also note that, before you scan, you MUST close all running programs including your web browser, e-mail and items in the system tray.

Please save your HJT Log as a .txt file and attach it via the "Manage Attachments" tool in the Additional Options section when you post.

I'll check back when I get a chance.

    Best :)
    PP

I also ran the programs in safe mode with system restore off. And i unchecked hide folders and all attachments. I did the online scans, it found no viruses. When i ran norton antivirus, it found one, and i quarantined it.

I tried to download OmegaKillerSM v1.2 but it says that the compressed folder is invalid or corrupt.

Here is my HiJack This log file

Please follow the instructions for posting logs.

Do you know what this is?
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\eber.exe

Are there any 016 log entries that you cannot live without?

I dont know what this is
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\eber.exe

I think symantec has to do with norton antivirus. Otherwise, i don't know if I can or cannot live w/o the O16's.

    Hi HrtBreaker779,

Please print out these instructions so that you can operate with All Browser Windows CLOSED.

Please make sure System Restore is OFF and the Viewing of Hidden Files is Enabled as per the tutorial.

Now, look in Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) for the following running processes and END them (if found):
    eber.exe
    ?hkntfs.exe

Now scan with HijackThis and check the boxes for the following:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?T...lion&pf=desktop

Again, make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

Now boot into Safe Mode and DELETE:
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\?hkntfs.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\eber.exe

Reboot to Normal Windows and Scan with HijackThis and attach that log.
Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and how your computer is running now.

Open Task Manager and click the Processes tab. If you see ?hkntfs.exe or eber.exe running, click on one to highlight it and then click the "End Process" button. Do the same for the other, if found. If neither are there, then proceed to the next step.

Later, you will have to navigate to those files in Safe Mode and Delete them.

    Hi HrtBreaker779,

You're Welcome! Happy to help :)

Keep an eye on things for a couple of reboots to make sure we got everything. Also, I wanted to mention that I left this alone - C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE It comes bundled with HP products and some consider it to be spyware. If you want to remove it, let me know.

Also, take a look at Chaslang's suggestions (though you probably have many of them covered already!) How to protect yourself from malware!
    Best :)
