Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I installed panda anti virus from major geeks then restrarted the machine like the program told me .
When it started up i had no items in the system tray and i couldnt do anything on the computer IT WAS DEAD!!!!
so i started in safe mode, again nothing so then i used the compaq system recovery which said that it would delete all programs i installed but wouldnt delete my data files.
I turned my computer on i works but my hard drive still has the same amount of free space as before but all of my music and movies have vanished the folders they were in are still there but the files have gone.

they must be on the system somewhere as the space is still taken but where would they be?

im running a p4 2.4 with a compaq presario 256mb ram + 70gb hd + a 6gb recovery drive
