Hey guys, new to the site - tried the search function but i didnt find the answers i am looking for. So here is the issue (im praying that someone can help) I bought a Dell 4100 (i build the one i owned before this, which is a better idea) it has i think 1 gig or ddr sd ram, 2 gig intel processer and a 80 gig HD from maxtor i believe. I have win xp loaded on the system and what not - i was using it last night and turn it off - when i came into the computer room this morning it had the lights on indicating it was still on, i checked the monitor and it was blank (except for it saying please check signal cable) so i thought it was just a weird error and pressed the button until the on light went off - i came back a few hours later to play some games and every time i turn the damn thing on it just beeps and does nothing - nothing displays on the monitor (except the please check signal cable)- i can hear the CDs in their tray spinning like its a normal start except nothing happens it just beeps 6 times and goes silent. the lights are on indicating that the stupid thing should be starting up but its not. What could this possibly be? (Im hoping its something cheap and NOT a HD failure - stupid DELL  !!!!)

as you have built PCs before you should be ok opening it up and checking that the GFX card and Memory are all seated firmly, personally I take then out and re-seat rather than just pushing down on them.

Found this link for the 4600, it may give additional info, especially with the little lights on the back of the tower. According to the link, it should be a RAM issue.

I once had a stick of RAM come loose while the computer was on, it was rebooting constantly for 2 todays when that happened. Of course, it happened sometime over the weekend on my office computer that I had left on.

Had this same problem on another Dell machine I was repairing. Same thing with the RAM, it had somehow fried so I just took it out and the machine booted just fine.

    Dell
