help!

You will need to install the chipset and graphic drivers for your PC again, the Graphic Drivers will allow you to change the colours to more than 16.

Check any driver and support CDs for your PC, Motherboard and Graphic card for these drivers.

 

Ah ok.... in that case you know what model HP Pavillion? Should be a model number somewhere on the case, then its a question of going to HPs support site http://www.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html pop in the model number and choose your windows version, which will show you any drivers for the PC.

Altho it also depends on whats installed in that PC... it could be onboard graphics, it maybe a dedicated PCI or AGP graphic card which will lead us to different drivers.... as you were given the PC, do you know if it was modified in any way?

I think our best bet would be to run http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html ( Everest Free ) once installed click Report Report Wizard > Next > Choose System Summary Only > Next > Plain text > next > then attach the saved text do to your next post, as let us know what your HPs model name and number is.

 

HP dont support Win2000 on that model for drivers at least, but as the graphics card is an Nvidia Vanta, then this old driver is possibly your best supported driver http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_30.82.html ( covers XP and Win2000 )

Great glad its now working, would have been abit sooner if I had not got latched on w2k drivers... but with older cards and compatibilty you have to look into the archives at Nvidia and read the supported cards doc, to see if yours is supported, but I remember the 30.x series drivers being good.

 

Dont get the question? its colors.... if a full driver from the developer is installed over the default ones that windows installs, then 32bit colour should be an option, never known it not to be, just need to goto Display Settings and set the colours to 32bit from the drop down list > apply.
