    Hi,

I'm not really very experienced so not quite sure where this enquiry should go.

I have AVG ,Ad Aware and Zone Alarm on my laptop but just recently have had real problems with it hanging and getting the message that Micrososft has encountered a problem and needs to close. Also, it won't let me completely uninstall and reinstall my HP software or update Adobe. the system still works but it's just not quite "right". AVG is not picking up any viruses so I'm at a loss as to what the problem is - can anyone help?

    Thanks,

    Linzi

Go to Start >> Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Event Viewer

In the left pane, check both "Application" and "System". Look for red X (errors). Double click on the error, this will open Event Properties. In "Description" you will see what the error was. Also there is a blue link to Microsoft for more info. on the error.

Take note of the "Event ID". You can then Google this Event ID for more info. or post the Event ID in this forum for more help.

Thanks for your help, Kniht. I contacted HP and sorted out my all in one problem. Now, I seem to have another one - never stops, does it?? lol When I sign on to Yahoo games, I get as far as "Click to Continue" with something like Pyramids then every window I have open, closes. Any ideas? It doesn't register at all on the Event Viewer so I'm at a complete loss. I did another full scan today and AVG isn't picking up a virus so I have no clue what's going on. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Microsoft tried to stop me running the first file but I overrode it - didn't seem to help though. When I tried to download the Mcrepair file, all I got was a blank page which said "The system cannot find the file specified" Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

I finally managed to solve the problem with a little help from HP Tech. Support and a bit of detective work. Also sorted the Adobe Reader problem by using the Microsoft Windows Install Cleanup and then doing a clean re-install. Thanks Kniht and Tim W. for your help - every day, I learn a little more!
