here is a tough one

my buddy downloaded mru blaster to his machine and it choked bad. after 3 and a half hours of work i gave up to reformat and reinstall xp. the machine is a gateway 2.4 with 512 ram and a 80 gig harddrive. well after i blew the partition and tried to reinstall windows i cannot get windows to install. it hangs up after about twenty minutes. i have tried it with 2 harddrives with the same results. i have used this copy on other machines and have had no trouble could i be looking at hardware falure? please help

 

My old windows Me instal disc used to that every time I reformatted my hard drive.
Bloody annoying
But I just kept on going all the way through fdisk, then trying to reinstal windows again and again until it would eventually work.
Just assumed it was something to do with the CD
Not sure if that had something to do with system restore never working for me on windows ME, or its just coincidence.
Not sure how often youve retried it, but, I sometimes had to do it up to 10 times before it worked !!

 

Same here. Often, swapping in a different CD drive cures the problem. Some CD drives eventually 'trip up' and fail to read a file correctly and installation stops. Once, I shut down the machine, put in a known good CD drive from another PC and the installation carried on, without having to be started from the beginning.

tried a new cd drive and a new dvd drive from one of my old machines and nothing helped. removed the video card and now i am in the machine so now i have to hunt for drivers for a pos gateway before i can connect to the internet and finish up everything. i wish he would have gotten a real machine inted of prefab. oh well thanks guys.

 

As for mru_blaster, I use it every day for ages now, with no ill effects. It works great cleaning out "Most Recently Used lists" that Cleanup!, CCleaner, Empty Temp Folders programs miss. Bazza
