The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is out as of today. I prepaid for it, and even bought a 20in WS LCD to replace my POS 19in 25ms LCD for the game.

Late last night, my PC died. Thats right, dead. I walked into the room to find it stuck on a stop error. So I rebooted. Stop error again. So I booted to Safe Mode. Stop error. I booted to a WinPE CD. Stop error. I ran memtest from a CD. A few hours later, I had accumulated a good oh...5 million some odd errors.

So I shut off the PC, and removed a stick of Ram. Turn the machine on and what do I see?

    BIOS Checksum Bad. Starting Recovery...

So I put in the Asus CD, and it automatically reflashes the BIOS. Reboot. Same problem.

So I try the other ram stick. Not even a video response. Same in all slots. I tried other ram. Once again, nothing but the fans fired up.

So here I sit today, pondering just how cool Oblivion is, knowing I can't play it for at least two weeks while my RMAs(for the mb and ram) are being processed.

    I hate computers.

    ouch!
You know what they say about anticipation.........
I've heard of more problems the past year with Asus products than normal for such a reputable co.
    Which board were you using?

    Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe.

Geez, sorry to hear that, especially considering the time, money and effort you spent on this thing!

Let's hope the RMA doesn't take too long.

That is crazy, I was just on new egg and tigerdirect(i know your thoughts on that one) looking at mobos for a new build and that was one of my tops.
Quality control just isn't what it used to be:)

Well, one can only hope that it was the exception, not the rule.

I could be a little more understanding if I had been futzing with bios updates and what not. However, I never updated the BIOS from its shipped version.

...and they advertise as Crash Free BIOS.

    What a crock.

    werd.
Hopefully you get back up and running post haste and enjoy the new game.
I haven't played any of the elder scrolls series since daggerfall, but my friend is stoked.

I'm pretty stoked too. It brings a tear(of sadness) to my eye.

Of all the times, it had to be right before the game shipped.

Thats my biggest gripe. I've got my Mac at least.

I'd be more concerned that it happened at all. The game can always be played later.

Anyway, I hope this isn't an issue with ASUS boards and that it's just a one off.

Adryn, sorry to hear that news..... must have made you scream a little.... you think the heat issue with the board may have contributed?

Guess you could always try out getting XP on the MAC to play the game! :) ;)

TBH, I don't think heat did it. I've had it fairly cool, for over a week now.

As for the Mac, its a G4, and only an Ati 9700 mobility at that. :(

Out of curiousity, has there been a Bios revision since this boards release?

One since I bought it, but it was a minor update, for overclocking performance and a few other small things. I opted not to get it.

    A8N32-SLI Deluxe Bios version 1103
1- Support VCT Function for both LAN.
2- Show pink and red color when oversetting Dram voltage.
3- Fixed System show wrong Memory Installed Size when Enable Memory Hole Function.
4- Update AI Booster Code to improve overclocking ability.

You had trouble with your previous comp also:confused: and you'v just moved house

Just wondering if your new houses AC maybe the culprit, twice is coincidence, thrice is foul play:) ,either way that really sucks

You know...thats a good point. Two PCs have found their demise in this house. I'm using a UPS, but it may not have a line conditioner in it. I have an old HP P4 2.8ghz w/ 1.5mb ram here that seems to be fine, but spends most of its time turned off, doing nothing.

Of course, you'd think the PSU would go poof! first. I know my voltages were almost spot on perfect.

Any idea how I can test it?

Funny...now that I think back, at least once a day I hear my UPS click to battery mode and back, before the warning beep comes up.

Hmmm...the plot thickens. I wonder if its just my UPS.

I thought your MSI board didn't die, but had driver problems?

    Electricity surges wouldn't cause that.

    Adrynalyne Guest

No, it definately wasn't driver problems, because it randomly chose the driver to complain about including system level drivers. Even a clean install wasn't stable. Random stop errors, causes and times. Funny thing is, Prime95 was perfectly stable.

    Horrible.

I think I'll invest in a UPS w/ an AVR, just to be safe.

Oh looky, Oblivion is taunting me.
