Here's a little puzzle

I've been doing some housekeeping in My Pictures. But every time I empty a folder, Windows Explorer tells me there are still files in the empty folder.

What's going on? :confused

 

Have you tried looking for hidden files in these folders?

When viewing pictures in 'Thumbnail' mode, Windows has to create a little cache of the pictures in a hidden file called thumbs.db. I'd wager that is at least 1 of your mystery files.

Hmmmm.... I don't think this is likely but assumption is the mother of all foul ups, so:

Just below the option to show Hidden Files and Folders (at the link I provided), there should be another option labeled 'Hide Protected Operating System Files'. Try looking with this option disabled.

 

"Protected Operating System Files" sounds a little above my pay-grade. I think I'll leave well enough alone.

I've already deleted several "empty" folders over the past few days and the computer is working just fine (and isn't that a phrase you don't hear to often around here? ) so I think I'll just keep deleting the empties and getting My Pictures less chaotic.
