My recommendation is to swap out the 4000+ and go for a AMD Opteron 144, or 146 skt939. Seen them go up to 2.7 GHz stable, although I am not an expert you could save alot of money that way.

I can get my amd venice to go up to 2.8ghz stable. Stock is 2.0ghz and cost me $170.

First off if you do end up getting one, or any CPU for that matter, make sure it is the RETAIL version, to my knowledge OEM's dont have the AMD badge, or CPU heatsink/fan. Everything is run on air, with the stock cooling fan. In order to reach the 2.7 ghz, you have to go into CMOS and change the frequency/voltage settings. A good add-in to observe these changes is CPU-Z http://www.cpuid.org/cpuz.php which gives you everything you need to know plus more.

From what you want computer for you should definitely get a dual-core cpu. Probably should anyway but heavy desktop tasks means dual-core. Eventually Vista and games will mean dual-core. Will only get "worse" so even if you will be happy with single-core today you should get X2 3800 or Opteron 165, 170.

but the duel core 4200 that i wanted got bad reviews and the processor the
64 4000 has way better reviews...

so i am stuck i want the duel core but stats r telling me wrong

by the way for the ones that are reading the ice tea thing i got it but now i finshed it...

    now i want some pizza

I have been using AMD 64 duel core 4400 for the past 6 months with my 10,000 rpm raptor hard drive. Runs great and it's fast.

If you are going to be doing heavy multitasking, a dual core is the way to go.

I too, use a 4400+, and love it.

If you need reviews read this about X2 3800 http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2650

Buying an X2 3800+ right now and overclocking it to 2.6 GHz will, in all likelihood, match the best official dual core processor that AMD will release during the next nine months. (You might also try to get one of the dual core Opteron chips, with which many people are overclocking to 2.8 GHz and beyond.)

Relationship between cost and overclocking value might be why you see "bad" reviews.

see but i am afriad to overclock because if i do i dont know what type of cool system that i should put in. Like if i am going to over clock i will buy the amd 4200 and try to overclock it to 2.8 and its designed for 2.4 if any one knows what type of cooling i should put in please tell

    thanks!!!

cause right now i only will have the basic heat sink fan in it

You certainly don't have to overclock. I don't, and am quite pleased with my 4400+.

ooo see but wha about the cooling i am a new amd person so i dont know how i should cool the system

You dont need special cooling other than standard AMD cooler from in-a-box version. Not for moderate overclocking. These cpus runs very cool and dont need much extra voltage. I just got this btw, http://www.arctic-cooling.com/cpu2.php?idx=80&disc= very nice and quite cheap. No need to spend more if you want 3rd party air-cooling.

I think you should find why dual-core will be better for you before thinking of overclocking. So easy there is no need to make that an issue. More or less an option you just have to select - and if you count $ per mhz you see why X2 3800 is popular. Part of oc is to make cheap components faster not to tune allready fast and expensive models.

Since you will get DFI try look up what and how users overclock http://dfi-street.com/forum/ As said you dont have to and if you do there are other setups than close to world records. Up to what standard cooler can cool is one way. As long as you keep oc at realistic and testet levels computer will be 100% stable. Also look up best settings for ram, may be check experiences with your choice. Very important for easy/best oc that ram works well with bios/motherboard - take advantage of their findings.
