Hi + Back Up Q

    Hi everyone,

    Joined a couple weeks ago but didn't get around to saying 'hi' yet. :wave

    Not sure where this question fits in the forum but I wanted to ask about the best way to back up files. I have a growing collection of large picture files, movies and music that take up too much space on my PC / laptop. I find external hard drives cumbersome since they're never directly on hand when I want to use them. Just wondering if anyone has a cloud recommendation? I was looking at cloud opinions from my web hosting company but have also heard about \Dropbox Google Drive, etc. I'm a bit confused. Is the only difference between clouds in the price? In which case, what do you think is the best deal?

    Thanks for your advice. Looking forward to getting tech savvy-er on the forums.

    Uploading is always slower than downloading so if you have lots of files, you'll spend lots of time uploading.

    I store pictures, movies and music on at least two devices. I might burn to a CD or DVD, put on sdhc cards or an external portable hard drive. (I have 4 portables and one old, rather huge external hard drive).

    My advice, put on an sdhc card or USB stick then move to the portable hard drive when you have the drive handy.

    Google Drive and MS OneDrive are both free up to 15GB, not sure what Dropbox's free limit is. Plodr is right about uploading being slower than downloading but after the initial upload you may still find it satisfactory. I use OneDrive and don't even have to give it any thought as new files are automatically added to the backup without user intervention.
