A few weeks ago I went to my usual website (cardmaking craft) & whooooosh, computer crashed, even before I had logged in. It's okay now thanks to a friend of my hubby's. Apparently this website had been infected with a trojan or worm, there must have been a huge amount of computers effected as there are a few hundred members from across the globe. I reformatted from scratch using windows xp cd. It took me forever putting everything back on, as you can imagine. It's now nice & clean. I lost family photographs and quite a lot of craft templates, papers, etc.

All was working really well. Till today.

Here's a question which I am desperate for help with. For some reason today, the disk drives are not showing up when I go to 'My Computer'. Btw I have windows xp home edition (sp3). All that's there is (A) floppy and (C Local disk. No sign of (D) or (E). Checked in Device Manager & there next to Sony cd-rw crx230ed & Sony dvd rw dw-u18a are yellow question marks.

Here's more details of my puter.
    AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+
    XP SP3
    AGP Aperture size 128mb

I've just printed off 12 pages about my computer. Went to device manager - system resource report.

Can you please let me know what info you need about my computer? I don't think you'll want 12 pages...:) LOL
Is there someone who can help a lady in distress :))), if I don't laugh I'd only cry !!

    Please please help.

It's just gone midnight here, will wait till 1230 then off to zzzzzzzz land :tired

    Thanks

Best thing for you to do is to go the the manufacturer's website and go to their downloads page to find your drivers.

Take a look at the following link:

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=145532

Down at the bottom of that article, you'll see a link. Click it, download the XP file, but before installing it, go to the Device Manager and right click the drives with the yellow question marks, select "Uninstall". Then double-click the download and click OK if you get a message like "Are you sure you want to merge this to the registry". Then restart the PC. I have used these steps with the same download DOZENS of times to fix CD/DVD drive problems. Give it a go, and let us know what happens! Good luck!!

here's an updated fix from microsoft, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

just click the fix it button, and ms will determine if the fix will work for you.
(i think this is the same solution as above, it's just a little easier to do)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!:celebrate

    I have (D) & (E) back up & working once again.

I first of all back up my registry on system restore, then followed the link to 'Jeremy' where I downloaded the zipped file. It worked a treat.

I can now carry on with making christmas cards, boxes etc.:cloud9

    Have a great week:)

    Loadsa thanks
