Hi! Need desperate help.. Audio Problem

    Hi! This is my first post here and I was wondering if u guys can help with this.. All of a sudden the sound on my laptop went dead. The laptop speakers started to make noises, then all sound went off. The volume icon, bar, system sounds are dead. I can't play any mp3 file (error message about no audio device).

    So, I checked the control panel's sound icon and it's all greyed out (no audio device is also up there). I checked the Device Manager and all is working fine (No X or !).

    Basically, I don't Know what to do.

    Obviously, it is quite possible that your hardware is bad. Try and plug in external speakers, if thats possible, to eliminate a hardware problem. Updating drives may help, though I dont know what sound card you have?

    Hey, thanks for replying.

    Well, the driver is Sigmatel C-Major Audio (SIGMATEL STAC 975X AC97).

    But it isn't avaliable on the device manger, only audio codecs, legacy audio drivers ..etc

    It's really weird problem. I lost sound suddenly with no apparent reason, and it was working fine in the morning.

    Well, I tried that but it gave an error " Device Object Not Found. Restart the System and Try Again" <-- Which I just did..

    I'm really clueless. Should I go to the maintainence center tom. to fix it up?

    Which Laptop do you have
    Chk in the system BIOS and see if the Integrated Audio is Enabled or not ?
    IF its a Dell Laptop could you plz let me know the Sv Tag and the country you live in ?

    Yes, it's a Dell Inspiron 6000. But I don't know what the Sv tag is..

    SV Tag = Service Tag

    It would be beneath your Laptop a 7 Digit Alpha Numeric Code

    Which country do you live in ?

    Your system is under Waranty,
    Call up the tech support and they will walk you through some diags and if required will replace the right parts

    Yeah, it's still under warrenty. But do I have to go the company; is there anything else (software-wise) to be done?

    ITs better you get in touch with them, they will walk your through both software and hardware TS and help you fix it since, there are some TS steps that could be done with regards to Hardware and resolve it after all you have a good free tech support
