Unrelated, but can you tell me how you configured firefox to launch when you connected to the internet? I've seen the connect dialog appear when a browser was launched, but not the other way around.

Btw, I second TimW's recommendation to visit the malware removal thread. Some great stuff in there. Even if you think you're clean, this will probably find shtuff for you.

Sometimes Firefox fails to shut down completely, and continues to run in the background. When this happens, the browser will not launch. You need to end the Firefox process or processes that are running in the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del). Then it should start normally.

is it in taskmanager under programs or processes - make sure there is no mozilla or firefox in processes or programs and try again, if that doesnt work then you should try rebooting in safe mode

ok, in taskmanager is there a tab at the top called processes?oh you have win98 - reboot your computer(if you havent done it yet) and try again. after that try safe mode - when rebooting it will tell you what f key to press

Try this link http://forums.mozillazine.org/index.php?c=4 which is also in your FF bookmarks, I have found it much better than the FAQ part at Mozilla. I also concur with both Tim & Mada to go to Malware and following their rules and post a Hijack Log. Best of Luck:)

In the Mozillazine Knowledge Base there's an article that details how to uninstall Firefox completely (even when the uninstaller fails): http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_firefox

Before doing that, you should back up your bookmarks, as described here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup

I wouldn't restore anything but the bookmarks and maybe saved passwords and form history, something might be corrupted in there. See the section "Partial backup and restore" in the above linked article.

Definitely do that malware removal procedure first, though.
