Hi to you all

Apologies, but I am yet another 'new to computers' person with a problem. My pc has started to do something odd. A page will pop up and say "sorry this programme has to close" for whatever reason, so far its been erecovery, office word, and a couple of others I cant think of. It is always a programme that isnt being used. Please tell me which forum to post this in as I have no idea what might be causing this. Thank you.

I am running Windows XP Media Center edition 2004. I dont know how to do a screen shot. The message that comes up is one of the windows messages, basically it tells me that the programme has run into a glitch/problem/is not responding and so it has to close. The programmes that come up are ones that are not being used at the time. PC came with a trial version of office excel, with the chance to buy the full thing, I had a quick look at it when I first bought the pc and have never touched it since. Obviously I dont use the e recovery, but these are the two programmes that turn up the most. This has happened about 6 times in the last couple of weeks. I get all the windows updates, run antivir, spybot s&d and ad-aware 2007 all free versions. I do disk cleanups and defrag. Any ideas what is going on?

 

Could be an outdated program in startup.

If they are trial programs you don't or can't use anymore uninstall them via Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Few programs uninstall themselves after a trial use, I believe Perfect Disk 2008 is one that does
Bug.

 

Thanks Steve and bugballou. I will download ccleaner and run it through. I have looked all around in here and had been wondering if this might help, but my internet connection has not been to good lately -due to stormy weather- so I haven't been able to post in here.
Catw9Lives, I managed to get a couple of screenshots of the messages. I tried posting them, all the while getting very frustrated with the dodgy connection, decided to attempt it later. And somehow I managed to delete the screenshots, or I've put them somewhere I cant find them!! Told you I am new to computers, lol.
