Can anyone help me with how to exit out of hibernate mode in XP?
I've tried the usual, ctrl/alt/delete, moving mouse and clicking, Esc, power off system and monitor, power back up. Switched out the monitor with no changes, switched out the mouse, no change.

When I power off the system and back on, it pops back on (power light) and checks keyboard and scanner but the monitor never comes on and the signal to it isn't present.

    Any suggestions?"?

So if I understand, you are not in hibernate mode, you get no signal to two monitors. No flashing amber light is on the monitors when attached to the computer? You get a black screen and no lights anywhere on the monitors.

    Hello Im Erico0O ,
(coollz friend) . To correct something . Her computer seems "TO BE " STUCK IN HIBERNATE MODE . Her monitor doesn't cut on . Shes tried another moniter just to see if it was a bad monitor but she gets the same . She saw that the computer acknowleges the monitor by SEEING the monitor's amber(or green?)flashing light near by the monitor power button during her reboot attempts . So basically she put puter in hibernate mode and stepped away for a while then came back and it wouldn't (or doesn't seem ) to come out of Hibernate mode . She gets the same problem even if she uses another working monitor . So it doesn't seem to be a monitor problem , Rather it seems stuck in Hibernate mode . Any Ideas on how she can get out of Hibernate mode - even though she is NOT able to see anything on monitor?? Thanks guys , Erico

    Plodr,
I power up the monitor first. The amber power light comes on.
I power up the computer, the amber light changes to green briefly then switches back to amber as if the system is still in hibernate. So I have a blank screen.

The computer stops all activity (but the power light and briefly the disk led are lit) but the state on the monitor is still blank with an amber power light. To me the amber power light says the monitor is working but the system isn't communicating with it as if in a hibernate state.

So is this it for my hard disk? Do you think I can salvage any data from the disk if it is dead?

Oh my gosh, I need the data from this disk.
    Help?

The keyboard initiates by flashing its lights, the monitor briefly flashes from amber to green, then the system seems to cut out and the green LED turns amber. Also the keyboard lights go out as well.

Something else that causes me to think the system is locked in hibernate is that when I power the computer off and then back on it doesn't seem to be rebooting. When the computer was operating correctly and I put a thumb drive in a usb port and powered up the computer, the monitor came up and displayed a script that the system could not boot from that disk. To see if I am correct about the hibernate situation, I put a thumb drive into the computer this AM and powered it up. Still no display. So is my disk stuck in hibernate? Is my disk fried?

It sounds more like your video card has died. No monitor gets a signal so you see nothing. You should see a BIOS screen - even before windows loads and you aren't seeing this.
If you don't have a video card and just a chip on your motherboard, then that has probably died.

To test my theory, get any live linux CD http://www.livecdlist.com/
burn the ISO and boot from it. If you see nothing, it is your video.

If you pull the plug on a computer or press the power button in to turn it off, when you turn it on, after the BIOS and before windows loads, you'll see a message that windows wasn't shut down properly so checkdisk will run to check the integrity of the disks.

Not extensive experience on the switching power supplies, but if the power supply has a problem, or a significant short (wiring harness).. the supply may attempt to come up, and shut down. If it were a video problem, I'd assume the drive would run.
