Hibernation option not working; Laptop not shutting down properly

My laptop has been having trouble hibernating and shutting down. I recently got ride of a Pihar.b virus with the help of the Malware removal forum. I can't hibernate my laptop or shut it down. The hibernation option isn't even available in the start menu and when I shut it down it just restarts. I found a way to get the hibernation option back and when I made it hibernate my computer shuts down but when I reboot it says it didn't shut down properly. I have been putting it to sleep when ever Im going somewhere and that is using my battery more than hibernation.

My Computer is a Dell XPS, Windows 7, i5 Core Processor, 750GB HD, 6GB Memory. I do not have the recovery CD for Windows 7.

OK. From the command prompt if you "shutdown /h" does your machine hibernate? If you just do a "shutdown" from the command screen, does your machine shutdown?

 

No it just restarts
