    My Specs:
    Toshiba 1625 CDT laptop
    Windows 98 4.10.2222 A - Clean install using /T:C:\WININST0.400 /SrcDir=C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS /IS /IW /IQ /ID /IV /IZ /II /NR /II /C /U:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    AuthenticAMD AMD-K6(tm) 3D processor
    64MB RAM
20G IDE Hitachi DISK TYPE40 Hard Drive
    MITSUMI CD-ROM SR242S

Standby works - hibernation HAS worked on AC & battery power - doesn't now on AC or battery power. What happens is when hibernation is selected (manually or through task scheduler or, as I have it set, when power button is pressed but not held down), it appears to be working (screen goes blank) but screen reactivates with user password entry dialog box - DOS screen showing the graphic representation of saving data to disk never shows - no error indication, either. The "enable hibernate support" check box in Power Management Properties/Hibernate tab, is checked. All Windows updates are current. And I have gone through msconfig & disabled all start-up software & TSR drivers, to no avail. Also, I have over 9 gig of hard drive space available.

In Windows Help, under Using Drive Converter (FAT32), it states "If your computer has a hibernate feature, the conversion may turn off this feature. See your computer documentation for details." I checked the included Toshiba User Manual - only indicates hibernation is a feature of Windows 98SE. Can you tell me the specifics of this? The original hard drive failed & was replaced over a year ago. I don't recall the format specs on the orig. (was unchanged from "out-of-the-box" setting) - the new drive is FAT32. I don't think I was given a FAT-format choice when I installed it & I believe hibernation worked after I installed it, but I'm not positive - that's why I want to know more details about the above statement from Windows Help. I read other forum entries on hibernation problems & disabled Quicken Basic 2000 Background Download Manager driver - hibernation still didn't work after doing this. Next, I downloaded & ran Microsoft's Power Management Troubleshooter tool (Pmtshoot.exe)[http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q185949&fr=1]. The following is what it indicated (in red text, as explained in Pmtshoot.exe's documentation):

Configmg reversal: Suspend abandoned. Resume initiated
    Device capabilities (19886acf):
    Power (f): D0 and D1 and D2 and D3
    Root-enumerated
    Registered device driver
    Registered enumerator
    Currently configured
    Has received a config start
    Enum generates hardware ID
    Not CM_Create_DevNode lately
    Filtered
    Can be rebalanced
    Can be removed
    Has received a config enumerate
This devnode's is an NT enumerator
This devnode's is an NT driver
    APM aware enumerator
    APM aware driver

    1576 Calling DevNode CONFIG_APM, CONFIG_APM_SET_S0, C29B2820:'NTKERN'
    Device ID: ROOT\CCDECODE\0000
    Class: Media

    1577 DevNode........ ROOT\CCDECODE\0000
    1577 Device......... Closed Caption Decoder

I did a search on hard drive for any files/folders relating to Closed Caption Decoder - nothing found. I also searched the registry - two mentions at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\Root\CCDECODE\0000" & "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\MEDIA\0007". I will provide you with all the data at these postions, if it will be of help in identifying my problem - I couldn't determine from this data if the Closed Caption Decoder feature was enabled or disabled. It did result in me remembering having seen mention of Closed Caption Decoder within the menus of Windows Media Player, so I opened it & switched off the option "Play/Captions and Subtitles" - didn't solve hibernation malfunction. Several months back I tried to correct hibernation by downloading S2D Creater Utility (Hibernation File Make), from Toshiba. Running this didn't help. And finally, having seen mention of DirectX in relation to Closed Caption Decoder, I ran the DirectX Diagnostic - it indicated the following:

ATI Tech. Rage LT PRO AGP 2X Main driver: ati2drab.drv
The file ati2drab.drv is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs. You may be able to get a signed driver from the manufacturer of the hardware device.

Could this be of any significance regarding proper hibernation operation? Whether it does or doesn't, I would like to know where I can get a digitally signed driver version, if available - I couldn't find this signed driver available at ATI Tech.'s site.

OK, y'all - up for a challenge?!!! I sure would like to get this solved - I really want to resume using hibernation! Thanks, in advance, for any brilliance :D you might can share!
