I am having problems with HID drivers in Windows XP. Whenever I plug in a new USB input device, it makes me install the HID driver, even if i had previously plugged an input device into this port. If I pull that device out of the port and plug it into another port, it makes me install the HID driver again. This only happens with input devices, not flash drives, etc.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi

What Service Pack level is your XP at?

In Device Manager do you have any yellow ! marks by any devices, if so what?

I would be re-installing the motherboards chipset driver again, just incase thats corrupted possibly, so if your PC is a branded one like HP, Dell etc check the support site for that makers for a chipset driver, if your PC is a home build then check the maker of the motherboard for a driver for th emodel of board you have.

If you have problems finding the info on motherboard or PC maker follow the below and someone will likely help you out finding the correct driver

I am currently running XP SP3. There are no yellow exclamation point in the device manager. I have tried reinstalling the chipset drivers, to no avail. This machine is a Dell Optiplex 740, also.

    Thanks.

    Hi

What type as in make and model is your mouse, keyboard?

As just wondering if you need a makers driver to stop possibly the default driver from installing repeatedly.

The keyboard and mouse are just the ones that came with the computer. Nothing special. I have also tried multiple mice and keyboards, all did the same thing. And I thought keyboards and mice (and just about everything else USB) was supposed to be plug-and-play...
