High Cpu In Vista

Dell laptop, newly installed Vista 64bit. CPU Usage at 55%. All processes are at 00 except System Idle at 38 and a svchost.exe at 55 with no programs running. Compared to another laptop exactly the same CPU Usage is 8-10. Any idea why the difference ?

Right-click that svchost.exe and click Go to Service(s).
Make a note of each service that svchost.exe refers to, and post it.

I see newly installed Vista. Perhaps the system is trying to do updates and that's why the svchost.exe is running high.

Check the Services to see what is running. Perhaps some of those can be set to manual.
