I've searched across the web looking for a way to identify high and low density memory modules, and asked tech support of a couple memory companies, and have received varying information. Can anyone explain to me how to tell the difference between high and low density memory modules?

A simple explanation is that "High" density memory modules have a a higher density of memory chips on the board...........usually "double sided", you have to be certain that one your MB can support "High Density" and two that you do not mix "High" & "Low" density boards. Hope that Helps

I think that the motherboard's (very poor) documentation says that it only supports Low Density RAM, and a maximum of 512 MB of RAM. However, I bought a module from Crucial that they insisted was "High Density", but it works perfectly fine in the computer, and is only single-sided. I've read in various places that a module being double-sided does not necessarily mean that it is High Density, and vice versa. If someone could explain that to me, or how to reliably identify High/Low Density modules based on anything on them (# of chips, chip arrangement, etc.), then I would be most grateful.

Corsair Value Select or Kingston Value are low density chips. Both have high compatabilty and should work in most PC's.

Bumping this. Can anyone explain to me a reliable method for identifying "High Density" RAM from "Low Density" RAM. confused

Bumping again since it's been ... quite some time. Can anyone help me understand this subject better?
