    Hello,

I've attached my HiJackThis Log. I've gone through tjhe sticky and have cleaned up quite a bit of it and my internet is running tremendously better. I'm still having a few problems which I'm unsure if there is something missing in the log.

I was originally having problems with my McAfee applications. I couldn't open them and I couldn't uninstall them. I went through the McAfee instructions to manually uninstall them. When I try to reinstall the application still blows away for me. I notice some McAfee references in the 023 section of the logs. Could they be the problem?

I'm also not sure what to do with the PowerReg Scheduler?

Any advice would be greatly apprciated.

    Thanks.
    Shawn

Please do not post HJT logs unless they are requested. You problem does not appear to be related to malware. This appears to be a software installation/uninstall problem. I'm moving this to the Software Forum.

You should check out McAfee's website for more info or call their tech support to ask why their software does not uninstall properly.

Are you getting any error messages when you try and reinstall McAfee?

Also, what version do you have?

I am trying to install their Mcafee Internet Security Suite 7. I am not receiving any error messages. I get a popup saying its trying to prepare for installation and then it blows away.

I have spoken to their tech support. They believed it was malware. Therefore, that is why I started with this forum. They believed that the files were corrupted by the malware and causing the problem from there.

What anti-virus did you have installed before Mcafee Internet Security Suite 7?

Was it a Mcafee product or other?

    Hi Steve,

I had the previous version, Mcafee Internet Suite 6.

    Thanks again,

    Shawn,

I'm still checking, all I can find is info on the VirusScan not Mcafee Internet Suite 6 or 7.

Might come up with something. I would guess files from a previous version or your current version is preventing the install.

Thanks again for your time Steve.

Maybe its under McAfee Internet Security Suite 7.0?

I just installed the 7.0 about a month ago and it made me uninstall the previous version before installing the new version. I didn't have any problems when I installed the first time around.

I spoke to the McAfee tech support again. They gave me instructions to perform a clean install. Which was basically, delete temp files, run scandisk, defrag and shut down all applications I could. It still didn't work. It hits some point of the installtion and just shuts downs without any error messages. I believe its the same point each time.

It seemed to have worked nicely for the previous month until spyware junk got a hold of my pc. I ran many of the suggested clean-up procedures. That is why I made my original post in the malware forum, suspecting that some remnants were out there causing me problems. But, I just don't know at this point. My head is just spinning.

Thanks Steve. I had gone through those instructions previously. I went through them again to see if I had missed any steps. I didn't perform the SPam part since I didn't install that featue at the original installation. I did find some stuff there to remove. I thought that was going to do it. But, the stinking thing still dies right after the "Preparing for Installation" message. Nothing happens. No error message or anything like that.

I even tried to download the reinstallation from their website. Just to make sure the CD player was working ok. It get to this point where its downloading this agentins.cab, which then opens the "Preparing for Installtion" message. Then it dies at the usual spot.

I was thinking maybe something else running was preventing the installation like the MS Security Center for XP SP2. But, I downloaded ZoneAlarm and it installed just fine. I just don't know anymore.
