    on my sony viao p2 running win 98: himem.sys keeps disapearing. I am using norton 2001 with current definitions, adaware, search & destroy and i just installed and ran avg 6. i get clean bills of health. I have reinstalled the opperating system. nothing seems to help. it happens about every third time i turn on the computer. i made a batch file to delete himem.sys (it is still actually there) from the windows directory copy himem.bak and rename it in the windows directory. It works but I would really like to find out what is causing the problem. anyone have any experience or ideas? i am thinking trojan. thanks for taking the time

    Try adding this to your config.sys:

    DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /M:1

    Config.sys is in the root of c: and can be opened with notepad.
