Hiren's Saved My Life

I just wanted to put a note out there and some information on a Boot Disc I recently downloaded and used. It's called Hiren's Boot CD. I absolutely love it. I work in the military and I needed something to reset passwords on WIN2K toughbooks, as the prior personnel lost all of them totaling 20 laptops. It worked like a charm. I had absolutely no problems and it has more stuff like virus scan/removal software, disk kill, for safe and secure data wipe and much much more. Hmm, there are other boot CD's, some available here at MG's, where the software is actually legal. Hiren's does contain some apps that are of dubious or illegal heritage.

There are free tools like the "NT offline reg editor" boot disk - google it or ophcrack boot disk.. scarry part is you work for the government and the disks are not encrypted.
Usually using any of these boot tools will not work if the disk is encrypted.

 

The laptops that we have aren't encrypted. There's no need to fret though, they don't have anything on them which would damage National Security. We use them for a WAN in the field, so the information is lost when we are complete. We are SeaBees, so it changes for each mission and then they are done with them. We reformat and secure them in a very, very large safe.
