Whoops... I tried this before... but it closed..
Now.. I'm a newbie here... and unhappily not a geek, or even that computer literate.
I did a pcrecovery and lost some files... I downloaded "Hirestore5.62a" in an attempt to recover some of the files... I could never get it set up and I have attempted to uninstall it enumerable times with no success...
It will not uninstall itself... it says it is in the wrong mode and I must change it... but it won't let me in...
It is not listed in my add/remove list...
I downloaded it to my desktop... but it will not let me delete it...
    Help...
    Thanks

    Hi Bruce

Boot into safe mode ( F8 at boot and choose Safe mode with Networking ) and then goto Add/Remove and try and uninstall.

If it never installed and is just the setup file left then try one/all of these

    1. Pocket Killbox
    2. MoveOnBoot this one, once you dragNdrop the file or browse for its location, deletes the file on reboot, so any applications that have locked the file are not running so cannot lock it before deletion.. my fav!
    3. Unlocker

also try them in safe mode if normal mode doesnt work.

Hi and thanks for the quick response..
It is 'installed'... and it is not listed on the 'add/remove' list...
I attempt to uninstall it from the folder, but it says I must first change the way it is currently running, saying it is in the 'restore mode'... but when I open it and attempt to change the mode, it will not allow me too.
Also, I have attempt to contact 'Ranier Technologies'... and have recieved no answer to date... the site says it has had more than 100k inquiries since August 2007 and I'm betting I get no answer.
I'm perplexed... everytime I restart my computer, this thing reloads itself and restores my computer to a previous time.

    Hi

    Which Windows version you have?

Do try booting to Safe Mode as it seems while this app is running it will not uninstall, so booting to safe mode only starts core windows applications, and should not allow this app to run, so you should be able to uninstall via the method your trying ( if the method your trying is the the applications uninstaller in its Program Files folder )

    Help... Halo or anyone...
I have tried everything you suggested... to no avail... and it appears now HiRestore has completely hijacked my computer... 'their' screen even opens before the HP or Windows screen and will not let me do a 'complete pc restore'...
I've even attempted to load a norton internet security disc which I own.. and HiRestore, or something will not let it load.
    Help

From the one review I could find of this, the person said it changed his Master Boot Record.
Maybe Halo can tell you how to repair the MBR.

    Hi Plodr...
Thanks for the suggestion... even though I'm a 'know very little' on computers... I think it is replicating itself... I suppose from one file to another...
It also is an 'application'... yet it is not shown on the add/remove list...
I can find it listed in several places... and I would suggest somehow it plants itself in 'update'... as the computer is constantly wanting to update...
I want to put out a hit on the head of Rainer Technolgies... definately a scam... if I take my laptop to someone to fix... most probably $100 to $150... but I can purchase their software for $19.95... as which time I can turn it off and uninstall it... now tell me someone didn't plan this..
I still want to find out where to report companies such as this... there must be an agency...
