i need help on a US History question that isnt in my book

Why was the Constitution to be ratified by convention rather than by the vote of the state legislatures?

I believe it was because it was about the only way to get everyone together in one place at one time in order to take decisive action against the British Empire and King George.

Not 100%, but that is my belief
