I recently picked up a Hitachi Deskstar 40 gig HDD. rolleyes When I installed it in an external case, it only showed 10 gig so I put it in another machine and started the windows XP installation from a CD. (Original not a copy). I found that there was a 10 gig partition that was formatted and a 30 gig partition that wasn't formatted, (approximate sizes). I deleted both partitions and tried to partition it as a 40 gig drive. It wouldn't do it. I had to use 2 partitions and format each of them to get it to work. I now have a 9.77 GB NTFS (healthy, Active) drive and a 27.49 GB NTFS (Healthy) drive. Would there be a way to reset the partition back to a 40 GB HDD single Partition? I personally detest multiple partitions on a HDD. Thanks in advance.

Please ignore my post. I found the answer I was looking for but don't know how to remove the thread. The answer was here:
Re: hitachi deskstar 250GB only reading 96GB?

I read it earlier but I guess I didn't comprehend what was being said. Guess I need to put brain in gear before fingers in motion.

Thank you and again, I apologize.
